Friday was a mostly sunny day, that was sweet

I worked on creating a scene from very generic buildings and foliage.  I rearranged the buildings and exagerated the sky to create movement towards the center of interest the buildings and added some figures for a little bit of humanity.  I think it worked out okay but I was hoping for a little more detail and representational content but I ended up here.  It is hard in 45 minutes to teach a lesson and paint a painting that has lots of finish and detail.

This week’s workshop was presented with many challenges beyond the traditional how do you handle the complexities of mother nature.  We had mostly cloudy cool and damp days that made creating form on objects much more difficult.  After a few days, my solution was to make up conditions that reflected a more sunny day.  I used the elements in front of me but created more contrast and light and moved on with the painting.  My group did fabulously well each painter struggled and then rose up and painted some very wonderful pieces.

Yesterday we had some pretty nice sunny weather in the morning and then windy cold in the afternoon. 1. The fact you can create content is a gift! Had a great week of learning, painting and engaging with fellow artists.

  2. Great example about inventing a subject. Thanks for the explanations. The watercolor has been really attractive. With affection Mercedes
