This sunset painting was a demonstration for one of my classes. I was trying to explain the concept of value control and how value affects color. If the color is wrong most times its the value that is off. Analyze the values in the major shapes and keep relating those values to the ones that you are putting on your canvas.
Sage
The jeep bounced along on rugged tires
Shaking us like dice in a cup
The scent of wild sage rose
Like smoke from a smoldering fire
The smell slightly cloying and heavier,
Than the flakes in the spice rack back home
Fragrance coated my clothes and hair
A Pungent paste floated in the cool air
The setting sun breathed flaming hues
Through the thick dusty air
The purple green grass once so lush
Now is blackened blue
On the wings of approaching darkness
The scent of desert sage,
Seasoned the ominous din of night
Predators preyed, the weak took flight,
