In The Studio: Several New Oil Paintings

I’m putting up a few new oil paintings that I painted over the last few weeks, the are all small 11×14 or 9×12 pieces on canvas panels and I think they are working a little better at keeping a concept or focus in mind.  One of my big struggles when I first started oils after 35 years of just painting watercolors was that I had tremendous tendency to over paint, too much information, in the areas that were supporting portions of the painting.  After having some very good teachers, Roger Dale Brown, Matt Smith and Marc Hanson whip on me I a beginning to get some sense of the concept of having a concept.  I think in another year I might be able to say I am getting comfortable.“The River Under the Bridge”  I tried to just focus on the several pieces on light on the water and downplay all of the rest of the details.“Saint Augustine Storm Front”  I was so impressed by the stunning light in this piece that is all I focused on.“Study for Camden Galways”  Although the trees are pretty powerful I am trying to keep the black and white cows the center of interest.
