It is impossible to be in two places at once or as Mr. Tolle says you might as well appreciate the moment because it is the only place you can be at the that particular time you can’t be in the future and you can’t be in the past. How does this apply to art? If you look at it from the point of view of zen then it would mean that as you paint you must be totally present for every moment, every brushmark and decision until the painting is finished. It is all that is important and to not be totally present diminishes the experience and the committment to the painting. The next time you paint turn off the phone the computer and the outside and inside conversations and experience the process of creating for as long as you have allocated for the session then move on to the next activity and totally commit to the new venture. Just being in the moment will lead to more satisfactory results.
