My favorite color scheme to work with is black and white or black and Ochre. I guess I could be accused of being a Motherwell or Kline wanna be but hey sue me. One should set there goal high and then see if they can breathe in the rarified air. I think that brings up a point that is relevant here and that is the unfair world of abstract paintings because it is always argued that to be great you need to not be totally original and not show too much of another’s influence. Well fine but when is the same rule apllied to the world of representational work. I mean tell me how many paintings of the Grand Canal in Venice have been painted and applauded for their technique and sensitivity yet they are all slightly a copy of the last version of the subject. Take a swing at a Pollock style and you are immediately chastised for your lack of originality. I think we shuld be allowed to finally reinterpret the great early masters of the Abstract school and not be put down for using their influences.
