Today we went to Birch Point State Park and dodged short spells of light rain.  It is a wonderful place with fabulous light, and it has become one of my favorite places to paint.  The light is always ephemeral and cool and the colorful rocks have perfect weather worn shapes.  I  have painted this scene many times but I just love to try to capture the sturdiness of the trees and the light and shadow on the rocks.

no.1

Holding back the wind

Rooted deep in stone and time

On coasts trees defend

Morning lifts its’ shade

Casting shadows on the rocks

Pines stand sturdy
