Most of the paintings I post are quick demonstrations, painted in front of my classes. I love painting in front of people and have been doing it for 30 years but I needed to see if I could find a comfort zone alone in my studio. Yesterday, I cleaned my studio, at least enough to be able to have a flat surface or two and decided to paint 2 watercolors. I wanted to try couple of new types of paper, Moldau, Czech mold made paper, in weights 140 and 180. I had no real expectation of success since the papers were unknown to me but the paper was highly regarded on WetCanvas. Long story, I had a great time listening to Rodney Crowell and the paintings were successful and I only practiced my golf swing 4 or 4 times. There is a silly little poem at the end.
Sometimes its just paint
A thing you slap on with a brush
No meaning, no rhyme, no reason
Another piece of creative mush
Other times it’s an extension
Of my inner artistic self
the one who hides inside
my brain
when I’m afraid to say
what’s felt
If I just get up and dust me off
And let the ponies run
I’ll lose control and light the fire
And the hard part
is already done
<3 this! happy to see you back in your studio…
The poem is fun and your paintings are a success 🙂 Love the moodiness of the dark piece!
Steve, Do you ever do a workshop in Alexandria? I’ve heard that you’re a great teacher!
I really like the two watercolors, but especially the second one. How about the new kind of watercolor painting paper? Respectfully Mercedes
