Rockport Maine A Day Painting

I tried to have a well concieved center of interest and I started with a good idea of where and how I was going to use white paper to really give a crisp feeling of light.  Remember a good starting thought is white is light in watercolor.  I know there are tints and other solutions but it is a good starting point. Here are my 6 paintings all of them are painted on 200 lb cold press Waterford paper.

Watercolors

Hello everyone, I am in Rockport/Camden Maine for my annual watercolor workshop but before I teach I like to get out and paint some on my own.  Today I painted 6 watercolors at 2 different locations.  They are all small 1/4 sheet paintings with the simple goals of expressing the light through simple shapes and very loose brushwork.  One of the biggest problems facing most painters is the tendancy to overcomplicate the subject and to spend way too much time on a painting instead of working quickly with a direct focused painting style.  I tried to have a well concieved center of interest and I started with a good idea of where and how I was going to use white paper to really give a crisp feeling of light.  Remember a good starting thought is white is light in watercolor.  I know there are tints and other solutions but it is a good starting point. 1. Magnificent examples of how you use the white of the paper to express light and a wonderful result. It is impressive how well you handle your art, it does not matter if it is watercolor, oil, acrylic, etc. It’s really great to me to sit and look at your watercolors. Thanks Steve
