Well there is nothing you can do about the weather if you are teaching and outdoor workshop and you want to keep it outdoors. We have fallen into a foggy drizzle pattern but we are holding our own and staying in the elements. Yesterday my two demonstrations we are task in staying focused on changing light and really close values. Neither of my paintings are my favorites but they work on the premise that you deal with what is in front of you and try to paint the light as you see it.

11×14 oil on canvas panel
There’s nothing out my window
The world has gone away
The fog rolled in and ate
The boats, rocks and birds
And now I have to bring it all back
With paper pen and paint

18×24 watercolor on 140lb arches rough
It’s not because of the fog
That blankets my world with dreary
My eyes are open but I can’t see
And then weight of the world compresses me
The screen of grey is just a fact
Nature’s big eraser
But without some light some things to see
I try too hard to make things work
And then I can’t see
Funny how sometimes we see a “stinker” and others don’t! I think the watercolor is charming and has great rhythm…maybe not what you were after but very entertaining none the less. Love your poetry too
That is so true, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves with the attempt at perfection. I think it retrospect after a few weeks the painting was more successful than I believed at the time. Thanks for reading the poetry. I love writing it.
