Yesterday was a beautiful blue sky day in Maine. We painting down at the Rockland City Marina and had a marvelous day. Of course that is if you enjoyed fighting the late afternoon 30 plus mph winds turning our painting spot into a wind tunnel. Some nimble movement was required to keep our paintings in the state of Maine. Lesson for today was to create a painting that was built on the strong contrast of a large colorful dark against a small interesting light shapes. Simple concept very hard to do.
The Shack
Dawn caught the side of boarded up shacks
Lighting them like Route 1 billboards
Screaming paint me, no me
The derelict buildings
Sitting precariously on the rotting dock
On pilings like arthritic legs
Huddled like condemned men
Waiting for the executioner
They are missing most of their windows
Boarded walls let in more than they keep out
Soon they will be gone
An eyesore removed
to make way for the future
as seen through the eyes of a few
Once erected I’ll turn my eyes
And take by paints elsewhere

Thank you for teaching us to interpret the night light. I really like your watercolor.
