In The Studio: Composing a painting from an image

Watercolors

Here is another painting from my watercolor class. It seems like most of my painting these days is the result of my demonstrations, heck maybe that’s what I am is a 45 minute painter.  Well everyone has to have a skill set.  In this painting I really wanted to get a nice overlapping drawing based on a continuous line starting with the little row boat in the bottom left.  I painted all of the middle value darks in one pass from bottom to top leaving lots of nice clean white paper. I was really concerned with using the side of my brush to apply the paint so I could get some really nice application of paint and good interesting edges.  I then came back over top with darker form values and the necessary details.  Keep your painting direct and purposeful and use a good light-filled image.IMG_2246IMG_2248
