I am posting a few of my demonstrations from my September workshop in Maine, all three are watercolors and are on 300 pound arches paper.this colorful painting was a demonstration about using a light pattern, supported by color, to move the viewer through the painting, I used a really dark background of thalo blue, new gamboge and permanent rose to offset the light shape.
this demonstration was about keeping the values light and using colorful greys to capture the feeling of early morning fog. Since the air was really tranquil I really played with the soft gentle movement of the water.
This demonstration was about creating a sense of depth using over-lapping shapes and atmospheric perspective. the idea is to have more texture, color and information in the front and cooler softer less detailed shapes in the back. Done well you can really paint a nice painting even with a very simple subject like this. Always paint light not things.
How much information in as few words! Dear Steve, I am passionate about reading your posts. Your watercolors are magnificent and your generous teaching us is extraordinary. Thanks a million to get back to my computer. With respect, Mercedes
