I painted this oil painting yesterday in the rain, while positioned under a 15×15 gazebo, I loved the view and the light. Following along with what I have been talking about lately it is important that you have a concept for your painting. In this painting I wanted the daffodils to be the center of interest and the trees against the sky and distant hills to be interesting but not the focus of the painting. I started with a very dark umber ground which allowed me to keep the darks translucent and clean. This approach is very much like the daffodil still lifes that I put up last time. I kept my value range very close and used very few highlights.11×14 oil on canvas panel
