The Artist In The Studio

My only goal with these two oils was to try to capture the colors of the daffodils, and flowering quince blooms.  I left the composition to another painting.  I believe that unless I can get a better understanding of the colors I am looking at I will not ever feel satisfied about my oils.  These were a lot of fun and were painted as a study 60 minutes per panel.  Try this as an exercise just put a dark ground on your panel before you start and lay in the dark passages very transparently and leave them alone.  lay the lights on with each brush mark counting and no over fussing with the application of paint, keep it direct.Spring Study 19 x 12 oil on canvas panel

  1. I love these- the way you lead the eye into the painting with your branches-the brush work-and the spontaneity are wonderful-keep it up!

  2. I really like your treatment of still life. The composition, the harmony of color and textures. Thank you. Respectfully, Mercedes
