This lesson was about making a value pattern, editing out the non essential pieces of detail, and focusing the painting on an a light abstract shape, supported by movement in and out of the shape. I used a lobster boat and two row boats to be my major shape and played this in contrast against the pattern not the details of the dock, they were tied up to.
I worked at keeping the edges loose and having a nice feeling of warm cool contrast. I punched up the colors behind the main boat and made the other colors less vibrant. Remember you have to make your concept and center of interest work or you are just filling in the colors or playing on the paper and that is not art.
