I have been teaching a wonderful group of novice oil painters out in the marvelous Virginia countryside and it has gotten me outdoors painting also. Over the next few days I will be posting my efforts in these classes and my pieces from my own private time working out in the great open air. Enjoy!“Summerfield Pond” 12×16 oil on canvas panel My goal was to keep the pond the center of interest and capture the wonderful light that was sitting on its surface. Everything else is supporting this concept or idea.“Turner Pond, Sky Meadows” 12×16 oil on panel This was a glorious day and I although in this painting the water is again a feature of the work the cows are the center of interest and so I keep all other details and contrast less important. I worked a very strong green orange contrast at the cows which definitely makes them the center of interest.

Beautiful paintings! Love both of them! makes me want to paint Plein aire!
What wonderful your paintings Steve. To paint outdoors, is another great challenge that I would like to dominate. Would it be possible to see the photos of the painted site? Thus we learn as simplify everything what we see. Thank you very much
