The first thing I wanted to do when I got home other than the usual laundry and put stuff away was to get a few of the oil paintings I had sitting around, finished or “finished” depending on the direction of my efforts. I am going to show you the way they were before yesterday and then I am going to show you the finished pieces. I think they turned out okay, I am still trying to get a handle on this medium. So this little oil painting lacked any sort of finish and detail, plus I really wanted to add a feeling of depth and contrast so I put in some fall colored trees and really livened up the foreground. In this next piece I really didn’t have anything going on except of a dark shape against a light background and had really left out all indications of what things were. So I added the rocks, and details of weeds, and then gave the water a little movement and the trees some highlights.Notice that the weeds now are clarified and the rocks make sense against the green and yellows. Also I think the water has a nice feeling of calm day although I am not sure all of the values are quite right.

I like these! Think finishing is the HARDEST thing to do. I often rework the whole painting after adding that one last thing!
it’s great to have you back! (ptFB test)
When I go back to an oil painting that I had worked on some time ago, I find it difficult to remember the palette that I had used and, above all, to revive the old dry oil to add the fresh oil. Can you help me in this regard?
