This painting was painted outdoors on the top of a mountain looking out across the Shenandoah Valley. The sun was really strong and the trees and hills and valley all merged into one flat nothing. I painted color, and texture and overlapping shapes and gave it my best shot.

those trees…only those who have ever sat down and tried to create a tree using watercolor paint truly understand how remarkable those strokes are.

Are you using cadmium orange? I use it sparingly, but enjoy it’s brilliance.

actually Mike I am using halloween from American Journey, I would prefer a more transparent orange always to the opacity of cadmium orange. I also like transparent orange from Daniel Smith.
You’ve really captured the light and shapes of Virginia on the cusp between spring and summer!
