In this new jumpstart I want you to approach the quick warm-up painting as an exercise in dominant, expressive light or white shapes, making sure that you really keep a focus on creating the most texture, color and line at the edge of the white/light shape. Allow about 30 minutes to each painting and try to keep the painting loose, somewhat abstract but with nod towards representational. I start with a loose colorful expression of a waterfall and I move towards a pretty abstract painting that just evokes the power of the waterfall. Each different exercise pushes the elements, color value and line a little further. This should be lots of fun and a great warm-up and a nice dabble into the work of abstraction. Use subject matter that works well when translated as a white shape, like, surf, rocks, waterfall, clouds, actually anythings works if you can express the dominant shape.
Love these–they make me want to head to the studio and paint!
Love the paintings; they have a lot of energy. Thanks for sharing it!
